Ration Card 3 Months of Free Ration 2026 April, May, and June 2026 Major Government Announcement

Ration Card 3 Months of Free Ration 2026: This decision has been taken by the Food and Public Distribution Department of the central government. Instructions have been sent to all states to distribute three months’ ration together in April 2026 itself. This step has been taken especially to provide relief to poor families during extreme summer heat. (Source: The Hans India, Kheti Vyapar, and other media reports)

Why was this decision taken

  • To avoid long queues and repeated visits to ration shops during summer
  • To manage stock efficiently in FCI warehouses
  • To provide relief to beneficiaries, especially elderly people and women
  • Although such 3-month distribution has happened before, this time it is specifically planned for April considering the heat

How much ration will be given? (Per person/family)

  • Priority Households (PHH): 5 kg food grains per member (free)
  • Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY): 35 kg food grains per family (free)
  • Some states may provide extra (e.g., Telangana gives 6 kg per person, i.e., 18 kg for 3 months)
  • Sugar and salt may also be included in some states

Overall, an average family may receive 15–20 kg of grains plus other items at once.

Who is eligible?

  • All ration card holders under the National Food Security Act (NFSA)
  • AAY and PHH card holders
  • Beneficiaries of the PMGKAY scheme (around 80 crore people)

Important:

  • Your ration card must be valid
  • KYC should be completed
  • Aadhaar must be linked

How to collect 3 months’ ration at once?

  1. Visit your nearest ration shop in April 2026
  2. Complete biometric verification (Aadhaar fingerprint) on the POS machine
  3. Collect your full 3-month quota in one visit
  4. Take and keep the receipt safely

Distribution may start in the first half of April in most states. Check exact dates with your local food department or ration dealer.

Benefits

  • Only one visit needed during summer
  • Saves time and effort
  • Reduces wastage of grains (can store at home)
  • Provides relief to poor families before monsoon
